Key limits to Sowore’s presidential bid

0

Sowore’s presidential bid has some key limits. And the constraints can make him fail once again to lead the country. He was a candidate in the last presidential election.

Sowore has refused to give up on his ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He sees himself as being capable of saving the country from the bad governance.

The most obvious limit to his bid is the political platform he is using. The AAC can’t boast of local or grassroot support. Of course, there can be enthusiasts across the country, but what about grassroot base?

How many villages, towns, cities have or feel the presence of the political party? The answer is quite clear. The two leading political parties (the APC and the PDP) have dominated almost all the nooks and crannies.

Sowore’s presidential bid would have been highly stronger if he has built the party or he is contesting on a very strong platform. The AAC can’t provide the needed ground to become the president of the country.

The financial capacity is also there. The Nigerian elections consume so much money. It is basically expensive to run. Vote buying is still a menace. And in order to win the election of that magnitude, much money must be available.

Some businessmen and businesswomen do sponsor elections of politicians. They do that because they have this assurance that the candidate would emerge.

How many of them can pump money into Sowore’s presidential ambition?

From another perspective, the northern voters still consider Mr. Omoyele Sowore as a threat to Buhari’s Government. The publisher of Sahara Reporters has led several protests.

He led the Revolution Now protest and actively participated in the protest against SARS. An average northern voter sees him as an enemy.

How one can win the presidential election without northern votes remains unimaginable. Sowore may actually be the hope of the country. He can transform the country positively.

However, if he can’t get the northern voters to back him up, he will fail. Therefore, this is a limit to his bid to lead the country.
