Another State to Be Carved out of Kano State, Senate Begins Work
The upper chamber of the National Assembly, the Senate has commenced work on the creation of another state from Kano. The northwest state currently has 44 local government areas, and it’s the largest in the country.
The bil seeking the establishment has passed the first reading at the Senate. It will move to the second reading and thereafter enter the committee stage.
Senator Kawu Suleiman Abdurrahman, who is representing Kano South introduced the bill seeking the creation of Tiga State. “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Creation of Tiga State Bill, 2024 (SB.523)” in the Nigerian Senate.
“The amendments are essential to ensuring our legislative processes remain adaptable and effective,” Senator Opeyemi explained. “We aim to reflect current realities and optimise the Senate’s operational framework.”
