Tensions rise in Kano as APC, NNPP supporters protest tomorrow over guber poll
Tensions keep rising in Kano State, notably in the City of Kano as supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the New Nigeria Political Party plan to protest tomorrow.
Political and ethnic violence is common in the northern state and it’s one of the most volatile in the country. The current issue reached the climax when it’s discovered that the Court of Appeal panel, which affirmed the sacking of incumbent Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf, made a serious mistake in the certified true copy of the verdict.
Abba Yusuf headed to the Appellate Court after the governorship election petition tribunal had sacked him and said that Mr. Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress won the election. The CTC did negate the judgement the panel read.
Yusuf had alleged that his removal was aimed at the former governor of the state, Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, who ran for the office of the president on the platform of the NNPP. He has also asked the people of the state to oppose the plan to remove him from the office.
The Ango Abdullahi-led Northern Elders Forum has warned Nigerian judges against its delivery of verdict . This has further emboldened the Kano people that support the NNPP and Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf.
Civil societies, who feel uncomfortable and opposed to the happening in Kano State, have petitioned the National Judicial Council. They cited the errors that the appellate court made. This development has heightened the tension in the state.
Kano State Police Command has warned the supporters of the two sides against any unauthorized protests in any part of the state tomorrow. The command said that it would deal ruthlessly with anyone who violates its order. Seven persons have so far bee arrested ahead of the protests which are capable of spreading across the northern region.
