Jurgen Klopp refuses to concede defeat against Madrid
Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp has refused to admit that it’s over in the UEFA Champions League this season. The German looked while the visitors, Real Madrid, pummeled his team right at home in Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has received so much venom from the Spanish giants on several occasions. He lost a UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid before winning the trophy in 2019.
Real Madrid scored five times to upturn Liverpool’s earlier lead of two goals. But Jurgen Klopp has said that it’s not over yet.
The coach said, “It is really not even in my mind. We go there, I can say it now already, and try to win the game. If that is possible or not, I don’t know now but that’s what we will try and from there we will see.”
There have been several comebacks in the UEFA Champions League over the years. And that is exactly what coach Jurgen Klopp expects to happen at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu for the second leg of the encounter.
The embattled coach agreed that it’s becoming closer and the game bigger. He said the tie is not over yet.
He told the press conference, “It’s how it is in these moments, the closer you get to the game the bigger our chances become and the less likely it is the tie is over.”
Jurgen Klopp could have put the game in favour of his team after Uruguayan Darwin Nunez and Egyptian Mo Salah scored in the first 14 minutes of the game.
Defending champions Real Madrid swiftly turned things around through Vinicius Junior’s and Karim Benzema’s brace. Defender Militao scored the fifth goal to make it relatively impossible for the Reds to come back.
Real Madrid has become a nightmare for English Premier League clubs. Last season, the most successful European team beat Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool to clinch the 14th title.
