“Jakande & Awolowo lack experience” – Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour claims

Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour has replied critics that he has experience to rule and lead Lagos State. The candidate of the Labour Party for the gubernatorial election talked amidst criticism against him.

He seriously hit back at the critics for calling him inexperienced. Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour didn’t stop at that, he also lashed out at the All Progressives Congress saying the party has been underperforming since it came to power.

The defunct Action Congress of Nigeria metamorphosed to the All Progressives Congress. The Labour Party candidate didn’t state this. And there has been no other party in power in Lagos State since 1999.

Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour spoke in an interview on Thursday, which the Guardian Newspaper monitored. He claimed that the first civilian governor of Lagos State, the late Lateef Jakande, achieved far more than the APC and its other forms.

Jakande was in power from 1979 to 1983. He built so many projects including the current Lagos State Government Secretariat, the Lagos State University, the Lagos State House of Assembly complex and a host of other notable landmark achievements to his credit.

The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour (GVR) said that if it’s about experience, Jakande too never had any civil service experiences before he became the state governor. Yet the late elder statesman performed well.

He argued, “Alhaji Lateef Jakande never had any public sector experience, but what he achieved in four years the APC government has not achieved in two decades”.

GVR (Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour) didn’t stop at Jakande alone, he also mentioned the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo as not having any public sector experience before they led the people. The late Chief Awolowo led the western Nigerians for some years.

The governorship candidate argued, “The visionary leader, Obafemi Awolowo, he had no public sector or governance experience, but he moved the interest of the Yorubas to a level that people are still trying to aspire to.”
