Israeli Airstrikes Kill 45 in Rafah, Gaza Strip
No fewer than 45 people have lost their lives after Israel launched a barrage of airstrikes on Rafah, the last safe place for bewildered Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The International Court of Justice has already ordered Israel to halt all its offensives in the area, where more than a half of 2.1m people of Gaza are seeking refuge.
Online Parrot News reported that Israel is still retaliating the surprise Hamas attacks on southern Israel on 7 October in which at least one thousand Israeli citizens, mostly civilians lost their lives.
According to Reuters, survivors of the current airstrikes said that families were getting ready for bed when the strikes hit the Tel Al-Sultan neighbourhood. Thousands of Palestinans were housed there.
“We were praying…and we were getting our children’s beds ready to sleep. There was nothing unusual, then we heard a very loud noise, and fire erupted around us,” said Umm Mohamed Al-Attar, a Palestinian mother in a red headscarf.
“All the children started screaming… The sound was terrifying; we felt like the metal was about to collapse on us, and shrapnel fell into the rooms.”
The news agency also said that more than 50% of the victims were either females or children. Elderly people also died in the attack.
Emmanuel Macron, the French president, has condemned the attack. He said he was outraged, adding, “These operations must stop. There are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians.”
