The Ekiti State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has taken a relatively new step to clinch Ekiti State. The opposition party looks forward to winning the southwest state next year; and it is working toward it.
The PDP lost Ekiti State in 2018 when former governor, Ayodele Fayose was defeated by the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi. The defeat of the PDP really affected its chances in the general elections, which held the following year.
The top leaders of the PDP in Ekiti State met yesterday and they deliberated on so many things. Key stakeholders, who control PDP in Ekiti State were in attendance. Two former governors Segun Oni and Ayodele Fayose were in attendance. Also the only PDP senator from Ekiti State, Abiodun Olujimi was in the meeting.
They all agreed unanimously to drop their differences and work for the success of the PDP. Note that Olujimi and Oni have obtained form to contest for the PDP ticket. And at the same time, an ally of Fayose is in the race.
The seven key leaders held their meeting in Lagos State. They all agreed to work for whomever emerges as the flag bearer of the party for the 2022 governorship election. Their interaction came at a time the All Progressives Congress is struggling.
At least two camps have emerged in Ekiti State APC. A side is working for the interest of Bola Ahmed Tinubu while another one is queuing behind Governor Kayode Fayemi, whose tenure ends next year. The PDP wants to engage the APC in a thorough race.
