I’m Still More Powerful and Popular Than Olubadan – Ladoja
The Otun Olubadan, Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja has claimed that he is currently more powerful and popular than the current Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The Chief made this claim when appearing on a popular programme on Fresh FM, Ibadan on Sunday. Online Parrot News monitored the programme, which has drawn the attention of hundreds of thousands of people.
High Chief Ladoja said that when it comes to protocol in Oyo State, he’s next to the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde, with whom he had an undisclosed rift.
Ladoja said, “When it comes to ranking and protocol in any event, I’m immediately after the governor. In fact Olubadan will be somewhere around number 12. That means I’m more powerful than Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin”.
There have been rumours that top personalities in the city are working on stopping Rasheed Ladoja, a former governor, from becoming the next Olubadan. The stool is rotary as the next person is already known when the current Olubadan is still occupying the throne.
Ladoja refused to wear the crowns which a former governor Abiola Ajimobi distributed to the high chiefs in the ancient city of Ibadan. He said that he wouldn’t wear the crown, but that of the Olubadan.
However, during the coronation of the current Olubadan of Ibadan, there was a gazette which said that any high Chief who didn’t have the so-called fake crown wouldn’t become Olubadan.
The high chiefs have also reportedly ganged up against Ladoja calling him their junior even though in term of ranking in the Olubadan-in-Council, Ladoja is next in line.
“The high chiefs who took the crowns have confided in me that the crowns they took are merely ceremonial”, Ladoja added.
