How table is turning against Ondo Governor Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was in Germany for nothing less than 3 months receiving treatment for some undisclosed ailment. While he was away, his deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa held forte for him and governed the state even though Akeredolu, a senior advocate of Nigeria, didn’t transfer power.

The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria orders state governors to transfer power to their deputy whenever they won’t be around due to one reason or the other. Akeredolu failed to do with a fact that he knows what the law says.

His deputy Lucky Aiyedatiwa showed a high level of loyalty to his boss. He maintained his position and didn’t go beyond the purview. But things started changing when Rotimi Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in September.

He withdrew some aides to the deputy governor, ordered that Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s communication team report to the commissioner of information and publicity. It’s a shocking that recuperating Governor Akeredolu wouldn’t let peace reign in the sunshine state.

He didn’t stop at that. He ordered his ordained Ondo State House of Assembly to begin process to remove the governor for misconducts. Till this moment, Nigerians…or most importantly the Ondo State people are yet to know the impeachable offence of the deputy governor.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa was fast enough. He swiftly approached the court which restrained the governor and of course the House of Assembly. The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress Umar Ganduje was in Akure to intervene in the snowballing matter.

Now, in a twist of events, some members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are working to declare Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor of the southwest state. They have deflected and taken their loyalty to the deputy.

Till this moment, Governor Akeredolu has not stepped into Ondo State, which he governs. He stays at his private residence in the Oyo State capital city, Ibadan. And it’s from that several kilometers away that he stirs the peace of the state.

A report says President Bola Tinubu has intervened. That means Umar Ganduje failed to find a point where all forces unite. He has reportedly summoned the lawmakers. The affairs of the state doesn’t really bother Governor Akeredolu but what his deputy does, does.
