How Seyi Makinde may have dug his own grave

In politics you don’t plan evil for the opposition for so long; Governor Seyi Makinde may have allegorically dug his own grave and planned his own downfall. It’s possible he considered his actions before taking them, yet he made a mistake.

The general elections results have been announced in Oyo State. The All Progressives Congress humiliated the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The results of the election may have shown the level of “political immaturity” of Seyi Makinde.

Prior to the elections, Makinde has blatantly refused to work for the presidential candidate of the PDP. He joined the bandwagons of the other four aggrieved governors. They said they wouldn’t work for Atiku Abubakar.

Whereas only seyi Makinde is seeking a second term in office as a governor. Others are in their second and last term in office. Now the reality is dawning on him.

The PDP lost the three senatorial districts in Oyo State. The party used to have just one at Oyo south senatorial district. But now the PDP has nothing up there as far as Oyo State is concerned.

As if that’s not enough, the party also lost 12 out of 14 House of Representatives seats allocated for Oyo State. There are no thanks for Seyi Makinde on this. It’s astonishing that he could “bottle” several seats in his state.

Does he have issues with the senatorial and House of Representatives candidates as well? Of course, he anointed and endorsed them. Even he might have singlehandedly picked the candidates. What has now happened?

While fighting the presidential candidate, he pulled down his own people. He betrayed them in the polls by allowing the All Progressives Congress to clinch as many seats as possible. He thought he was helping Bola Tinubu.

The governorship election holds next week. The effects of his actions and inactions would clearly manifest at that time. The defeated candidates of the PDP in Oyo State would go back to their shells. They will withdraw totally.

They are already in pains and you can’t expect them to continue fighting when they are nursing incurable injuries. Then, Seyi Makinde, the taciturn governor, will be in the lurch.

Allowing the All Progressives Congress to sweep several seats amounts to preparing for one’s grave. Seyi Makinde may go down there. Does he have a signed deal with Bola Tinubu? There is no report pertaining to that.
