How PDP’s G-5 governors may have scattered

The PDP’s G-5 governors may have scattered just one week to the presidential election, which actually united them. The governors are not as active and together as they were fee months back.

Mr. Nyesom Wike is at the centre of the aggrieved PDP’s G-5 governors and he has his goal of stopping Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from winning the presidential election. He doesn’t seem to care about whomever finally wins the poll.

Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar slugged it out in Abuja for the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). It’s a serious contest which the ex vice president won with ease though he got support from Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State governor.

After the primary election, Wike started calling for the removal of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu. In fact the demand for his removal ultimately gave birth to the PDP’s G-5 governors.

They used fora to launch onslaughts on Atiku’s campaign. They created a parallel group. However, it didn’t last as they seem to have scattered and their agitation goes down.

Take for instance, Mr. Samuel Ortom has identified himself with the candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi. He has made his own decision as far back as last year. He must have consulted others before coming up with that decision. But they didn’t unite, hence, no decision.

Samuel Ortom is the de-jure leader of the PDP’s G-5 governors. He could have asked others to join him and team up for the Labour Party candidate, who also dumped the PDP.

Seyi Makinde, the only Yoruba man in the group, is moving towards the APC candidate for the presidency, Bola Tinubu. On Thursday Makinde welcomed Tinubu to Ibadan and gave the presidential hopeful all the necessary logistical support for the campaign.

If Makinde doesn’t confess his political support for Tinubu, there are pieces of evidence to show that the Oyo State governor tilts towards the former Lagos State governor.

The issue of anointing or endorsing a candidate has scattered the PDP’s G-5 governors. They unite over working against Atiku. Unfortunately, they can’t identify one alternative to the ex vice president.

Wike as received Bola Tinubu in Port Harcourt. They both talked at length, but the host didn’t state his mind. He stopped short of campaigning for Tinubu.
