Segun Oni’s defection will hamper PDP’s chances in Ekiti State. The state will go to poll in June and all hands are on deck. He has now officially dumped the political party.
The defection of the former governor came after the PDP’s primary election conducted late last month. Mr. Segun Oni, who had led the state in the past, came behind the winner Bisi Kolawole.
Mr. Segun Oni might be convinced that he would win the primary election. But he lost woefully. He will announce his new party next Tuesday.
His departure will hamper the chances of the People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. Even the PDP may not be able to claim power in the state.
Mr. Segun Oni has some structure that worked for him in the primary election. He has an array of followers that can help the party win Ekiti State. But such a help has evaded the opposition PDP.
The People’s Democratic Party will surely lose a chunk of its forces to the political party Segun Oni will soon join. As a matter of fact, the PDP may not be able to go shoulder to shoulder against the ruling APC.
The defection will one way or the other hamper PDP’s chances in Ekiti State.
