The foremost football club in Gbongan, Olufi United Football Club, had coasted home a whooping sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000) for winning the Ayo-MBO Foundation Football competition.
The football competition was organised to boost local interest in football, to build and find talents. It is also organised to reward Gbongan youths who have flair for football.
The final match was played at the popular St. Patrick’s Grammar School field with several spectators drawn from the Gbongan community, the headquarters of Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
Eight local football clubs participated in the competition. They came from the three major towns in Ayedaade Local Government Area (Gbongan, Odeomu and Orileowu).
Two clubs from Gbongan reached the final which was played on Saturday, 8 January, 2022. Olufi United Football Club comfortably beat its local rival, Obada Football Club in the final which can be regarded as a Gbongan derby.
On its way to winning the coveted prize, Olufi United encountered Odeomu United, Obada FC, and Sunny FC.
Talking to the Online Parrot News, the coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Olayemi said that the Ayo-MBO Foundation organised the football competition so as to integrate Ayedaade Local Government football enthusiasts, reward for football passion among others.
Gracing the final match of the football competition were founder of the Ayo-MBO Foundation, Mr. Femi Adedeji, Elder Tunde Adedeji, the chairman, Osun State Local Government Service Commission, Elder Soji Opawumi, APC leader in Ayedaade among other dignitaries.
Also in the final was distribution of materials including hand band, fez cap, nose mask, key holders among other items. The distribution was sponsored by an online betting company, GT Bet.
