The vociferous Catholic priest, Father Ejike Mbaka has become a serious and stern opponent or rival of President Muhammadu Buhari. The two seemed to have formed a strong relationship. But things have relatively collapsed between them.
Mr Mbaka even openly campaigned for the then candidate of the APC, Muhammadu Buhari. Now he has claimed that he didn’t canvas for Buhari at all. He explained that he only saw Buhari in a vision and nothing more.
The Department of State Service invited Mr. Ejike Mbaka to its headquarters sometimes last year in a move that shook not only the eastern region, but also the country. He was released without any charges.
Since that time, Mbaka has changed his approach to become a fierce critic of Muhammadu Buhari and his administration. Meanwhile, Mbaka used to be a regular visitor at the presidential villa. Oftentimes he took pictures with the president.
After he had backed off from Buhari’s line, he embraced Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. And one step he has taken to be identified with the incarcerated IPOB leader is to pray for him. Mbaka has openly prayed for Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu remains in custody due to his leadership of IPOB, which calls for the establishment of the Biafra republic. Mbaka has become his main sympathiser. Whereas Mbaka knows the gravity of the allegations leveled against Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
Apart from praying for Kanu, the Catholic priest said he considered Kanu as “his son”. Of course, the implication of this is that he is covertly calling for the release of the IPOB leader.
During an interview with the Channels Television, President Muhammadu Buhari categorically stated that he wouldn’t consider pardon for Kanu. So, while Mbaka backs Kanu, Buhari supports continued detention of the IPOB leader.
Few days ago, Mbaka raise an alarm that he received an anonymous letter from the same DSS. He didn’t provide details of the letter.
