How armed robbery is increasing in Yoruba land

Cases of armed robbery attacks are rapidly increasing in Yoruba land. It is true that criminality and other related matters aren’t limited to a zone or ethnic, it is now more rampant in Yoruba land.

The current case happened only few hours ago in the capital of Oyo State, Ibadan. A yet to be ascertained number of lives was lost in the attack at the Idi-Ape axis of the city.

The area hosts a good number of commercial banks and other businesses. Hence, security ought to be very strong and tight there. However, the robbery attack was not for banks, but bullion vans.

The robbers shot indiscriminately to the motorists and to the commuters in the area. Some security officers including a mobile policeman died in the attack.

The police are yet to release a statement on the matter. But the robbers were able to go away with some amount of money from the van.

Cases of armed robbery are rife in Osun State as well. In September, 2021, a town, Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area, witnessed a very serious bank robbery. Two police officers lost their lives in the attack.

They were trying to repel the attacks when they got bullets. A police statement at that time read, “The robbers invaded the Police Divisional Headquarters and Wema Bank with sporadic shooting and launching of explosive devices in an attempt to disorganise, incapacitate and destabilise the police, who are in a fierce gun battle with them while robbing the bank.”

Three months to that incident in Iragbiji, there was a more serious attack in Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun. The gunmen stormed the town to attack banks.

The armed robbery in Yoruba land attack was also successful. Four police officers and three locals died in it. The robbers carted away a huge some of money from the bank.

There have been so many other cases of armed robbery in the southwest region. And cases of armed robbery attacks are rapidly increasing in Yoruba land. The curve seems to be rising and security is breaching.
