How 2021 is a complete failure for PDP

0

2021 is a complete failure for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The opposition party couldn’t stand the much pressure from the ruling political party and other political parties in the country.

The PDP would expect to take over power in 2023. But the party isn’t ready yet. The current year, which ends soon, is a complete failure considering two things. Those two pointers show the extent to which the PDP has failed to achieve some meaningful things this year.

The first one is the Anambra State gubernatorial election. It ought to have been the basic opportunity for the PDP to rise and get a simple majority in the southeastern part of the federation. But the party lost the election.

Mr. Charles Soludo, who represented the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the election, was declared winner. He beat the PDP candidate hands down! The margin was so wide that the PDP accepted defeat and moved on.

If the People’s Democratic Party had won the election, it would have got an edge over the All Progressives Congress in the region. But the inability of the PDP to claim Anambra made the year to be a failure.

Likewise the PDP suffered so many defections that make future appear dull and uncertain. The party lost at least two incumbent governors. Mr. Bello Matawalle and his colleague, Ben Ayade of Zamfara and Cross River State respectively left the PDP.

The didn’t only leave the PDP, they also went ahead to have a talk with the president, Muhammadu Buhari. This ultimately sealed their union with the All Progressives Congress. The PDP couldn’t regain that.

One couldn’t imagine that despite being a vociferous opponent of APC Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode would still change all of a sudden and be identified with the party he despised. Fani-Kayode was one of the loudest voices of the PDP.

The former aviation minister was also at the presidential villa. He took pictures with the president and the national caretaker committee chairman Mai Mala Buni. And that ended his relationship with the PDP.

The massive defections of Stella Oduah, Gbenga Daniel, Dimeji Bankole, Christopher Iyiola Omisore among others made the 2021 to be a very bad year for the PDP.
