News filtered that Dotun Babayemi has got the PDP’s ticket for the Osun State 2022 gubernatorial election. Has he really secured the ticket to face the All Progressives Congress?
The primary election should be among top contenders including Akin Ogunbiyi, Dotun Babayemi, Ademola Adeleke, Dele Adeleke, and Fatai Akinbade. But the race ended up being between Adeleke and Babayemi.
Others pulled out of the race several hours to the real primary election. But the exercise was divided. Two parallel primary elections held in Osogbo, the state capital. And two candidates emerged.
Dotun Babayemi relied so much on the support of the likes of former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to emerge as the candidate of the party for the Osun 2022 election.
There are more big names in Babayemi’s camp. They included Mrs. Olusola Obada, who deputized Oyinlola, Chief Olu Alabi, Chief Shuaib Oyedokun, Tajudeen Oladipo, Fatai Akinbade among others.
He toured the state during the buildup to the said primary election. Of course, he left no stone unturned in his bid to clinch the party’s ticket. There is an obstacle.
The other parallel primary seems weightier than the one that produced Babayemi. The primary produced Mr. Ademola Adeleke, who represented the PDP in 2018.
Adeleke seems to have found his way to the top of the party. He has linked up with the national leadership of the political party. Hence, he has his way eventually.
Reports have it that Adeleke enjoys the support of the PDP Chairman Iyorchia Ayu. He won the factional primary election with an unprecedented landslide.
Both Ademola Adeleke and Dotun Babayemi would claim the ticket. They will both claim to be the candidate of the political party.
It may not be clear if Dotun Babayemi has got PDP’s ticket. The critical race may not be over yet.
