The Gbongan Youth Emancipation Group has finalised plans to block the popular and busy Gbongan-Osogbo Road on the New Year eve. The group, which represents the youth in the community stated this in a statement.
The group explained that there have been multiple losses of lives on the double lane road which was constructed by the state government. The youth leader explained efforts taken to ensure the government erect bumps to forestall multiple accidents on the road.
The group therefore states that if no action is taken by Friday, 31 December, the popular road would be blocked.

Two more lives were lost on the Xmas Eve. Yes, on the same road.
There have been calls for erection of bumps at strategic places at the Gbongan axis of the road. No positive responses yet.
A series of letters was written to the state government, and Senator Iyiola Omisore had to plead on behalf of government that actions would be taken.
Since his plea, more persons have lost their precious lives on the road…while their family continue to mourn.
Hon. Remi Omowaye, commissioner for works, was in Gbongan recently to inspect the road. The youth leader, Yinka Oyeniyi, raised alarm about the road and needs for bumps. The commissioner gave his words to do something on it. He has now turned deaf ears to the cry of Gbongan people.
The government has been given ultimatum to do the needful by Friday, 31 December.
If there is no bump in place, the road will be blocked till an action is taken. All Gbongan people are urged to come out en masse for this exercise.
Motorists, commuters, drivers, and all residents are hereby notified to get ready for the exercise. Everyone is concerned.
Gbongan can’t afford to lose more lives. We must rise to protect our people who use the road.
