At least four main politicians gang up against Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Osun State governor. He seeks another term in office as the state governor. But the four men sternly oppose him.
The Independent National Electoral Commission conducts a gubernatorial election this year in the southwest state and Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola ought to have freely get the ticket of his All Progressives Congress. But he faces challenges within the political party.
Since the former governor, Rauf Aregbesola formed a kind of faction in the party, all has not been well with the Osun State APC. The Osun Progresives is linked to Aregbesola and he has never for once denied the fast growing group.
Aregbesola used to be Oyetola’s principal. It was Aregbesola who brought Oyetola into limelight when he appointed the Iragbiji born politician as his chief of staff. But the rapport between them has collapsed.
Aregbesola is the principal opponent of Adegboyega Oyetola. He believes the governor stepped on his toes with the change in policies and struggle for the leadership of the party in Osun State. Even the Aregbesola’s camp conducted parallel congresses to show its determination.
When the whole saga started, it looked like Aregbesola, currently interior minister, was a pariah. Whereas his camp is growing rapidly while Oyetola’s is lagging behind. At least three more opponents have stood up against Adegboyega Oyetola.
Mr. Lasun Yussuf, who once deputized Mr Yakubu Dogara at the House of Representatives, is now fully in the struggle to clinch the APC ticket. He contested against Oyetola in 2018. He lost, but he had boasted of victory this time around.
Mr. Moshood Adeoti has always been an opponent of Adegboyega Oyetola. He left the Aregbesola’s government in 2018 so as to contest for the seat of Osun State governor. He used the little known Action Democratic Party. He lost and returned to the APC.
Upon his return, he has started working on how to become the APC candidate and ultimately become the state governor. He has identified himself with the Aregbesola’s camp and begun the Osun West agenda.
The fourth person is Mr. Najeem Salam. Of course, he also benefitted from Aregbesola’s government. He was the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly throughout the tenure of Mr. Aregbesola. He hails from Ejigbo Local Government Area.
