FG Summons Gumi Over Ties With Bandits
The Federal Government of Nigeria has summoned an Islamic cleric and scholar, Sheik Ahmad Gumi for having ties with bandits, who terrorise the northern part of the country.
Gumi is a staunch advocate for the bandits who persistently kidnap northern residents and hold them for ransom. They kill unwilling victims who family members and friends couldn’t raise funds.
The cleric was vocal during the last administration of Muhammadu Buhari and talked in defence of the bandits. He was also caught in camera posing with the arm-wielding bandits.
Recently, he asked that the Federal Government negotiate with them rather than engaging them in a battle. He compared the bandits with Niger Delta militants who blew up pipelines and held expatriates for ransom.
He had said, “To them (military) they are fighting a war. Honestly, the military has been very hard on them, the Air Force is killing their families.
The Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris revealed the summon of Gumi while talking with the state house correspondents on Monday.
