Ex. CBN Gov. Emefiele Forfeit N12bn Property

The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele would forfeit properties worth twelve billion naira as a court gave the order.

Emefiele, who was the cynosure of the eyes of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been facing several criminal case since his expected suspension from office by Bola Tinubu.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is trying him for allegations including corruption, money laundering and misappropriation of funds. Apart from that, the Department of State Services (DSS) is holding him, the former CBN governor, at its facilities.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke issued the final forfeiture order after considering a motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, represented by counsel Chineye Okezie on Friday.

The judge said, “Having carefully considered the application and submission of counsel, it is hereby ordered as follows: – that a final forfeiture order of this honourable court is hereby made forfeiting to the Federal Government of Nigeria, properties contained in Schedule A herein which were traced and reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.”

The property of the ex CBN Governor included shops and apartments at Cadastral Zone Maitama and Wuse.
