El-Rufai incites Nigerians against CBN
Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai incites Nigerians against the Central Bank of Nigeria. The governor said Nigerians should continue to spend their old 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes. The CBN has put 10 February as the last deadline for validity of the old notes.
There has been crisis at the financial market as Nigerians struggle hard to lay their hands on the new naira notes. The commercial banks say the notes aren’t sufficient whereas the CBN says it has provided enough.
Top personalities have called for allowing the old notes to fizzle out on their own while paving the way for the new ones. But few weeks to the general elections, the CBN leadership said it wouldn’t back out of its plan to enforce new notes on the citizens.
After a futile bid to convince the president, Muhammadu Buhari, the Kaduna state governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai led other APC governors to drag the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria to the Supreme Court.
The court ruled against phasing out the old notes. It granted the interlocutory injunction restraining the Federal Government and the CBN. And El-Rufai has reacted by asking Nigerians to disobey the apex bank.
The Kaduna state governor asked Nigerians to stop returning their money to the bank and that after Tinubu has won the poll, he will reverse the policy of the apex bank.
He stated, “Stop returning your money to the banks, nobody will devalue your money, I am pleading with you, it’s just a matter of time, and now it’s remaining 18 days to the election. After the election wait for what Bola Tinubu will say. He will reverse the policy”.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has alleged that some individuals in the Presidential Villa are conniving with the Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele. They want to stop Tinubu from winning the election.
While being the governor of the bank, Emefiele sought the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the presidency. He purchased and branded some vehicles for his campaign before he eventually shelved the decision.
