EFCC Plans To Arrest Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has a plan to arrest and prosecute Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu upon completion of his second term in 2027 on the allegations that he’s involved in corruption.
The governor, who has got wind of the plan, has also approached a Federal High Court in Abuja saying that the commission wants to infringe on his fundamental human rights. The court has adjourned the sit which the governor filed to 11 November for further mentioning.
According to Sanwo-Olu’s counsel, Darlington Oruzumba, the commission has threatened to arrest, detain and prosecute the governor. The lawyer didn’t immediately provide evidence to corroborate his claim.
Sanwo-Olu wants the court to order the commission to stop what he calls “harassment”. He said that the investigation was politically motivated.
He also prayed the court to make an order prohibiting and restraining the commission “from seizing the property, passport and travel documents of the plaintiff or freezing the bank accounts of the plaintiff, his family members or in any other way to further breach the plaintiff’s fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution.”
