Did President Tinubu sponsor 1,400 people to Dubai for COP28?
Critics of President Bola Tinubu wasted no time to launch their attacks and criticism on the leader of the country when unverified information said that Nigeria has 1,400 delegates at the climate change summit in the United Arab Emirates.
The summit would hold from November 30 to December 12. World leaders or their representatives, government officials, diplomats, business leaders and pressmen often gather to discuss how to combat climate change.
Nigeria is behind the UAE, the host of the meeting, which has 4,409 delegates and Brazil with 3,081 badges. Nigeria and China, the world’s most populous country are on the same level with 1,411 badges.
The criticism against President Bola Tinubu is that despite the poor economy and suffering of Nigerians, he still considered spending the taxpayers’ money on sponsoring delegates, most of whom have nothing to do with the summit.
Online Parrot News has reported that the president has met and interacted with other world leaders, one of the key objectives of the president to the United Arab Emirates.
A finding by our correspondent indicates that about 600 of the delegates are directly attached to the office of the president of the country. They included ministers and their aides, civil servants among others.
Government employees who are also on the list included journalists from the NTA, VON, NAN, and Radio Nigeria. Taxpayers fund would be used to sponsor them as well.
There have been no reaction from the government, the president or his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, who has been providing updates on the president’s activities in the summit.
Nigeria’s delegates also include Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, business moguls like BUA Cement CEO and others. It’s not expected that the federal government would settle their bills.
