Court Rules Again Over 27 Pro-Wike Lawmakers in Rivers
The political crisis that is rocking oil rich Rivers State is not close to the end. A court has made another ruling over a matter that has already brought in President Bola Tinubu. Both incumbent governor Simi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike are at loggerheads.
A court had already ruled that the lawmakers, who are responsible and loyal to the former governor have lost their seats by virtue of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. They used the platform of the PDP to become a lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Okogbule Gbasam of the Rivers State High Court said that the impeached speaker, Martin Amaewhule, and 26 other Pro-Wike lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are still members of the PDP.
The judge said that they failed to provide evidence of their defection and that they made it verbally. Therefore, their defection is invalid and they remain members of the PDP.
