Chelsea and woeful performance under Potter

Chelsea has had only one victory out of its last 10 games. It is one of the most horrible stats a big team like Chelsea will have. The woe continued yesterday when Southampton visited the Stamford bridge.

Former coach Thomas Tuchel didn’t perform this bad before he lost his job. In fact he has been able to rally the team together and bring about results including a UEFA Champions League title.

Chelsea has new owner, Todd Boehly, after former owner Abrahamovich was forced to sell the club. And the American owner, Boehly has made some specific financial commitment to the club.

Yet coach Graham Potter couldn’t give the club and team what they need to get results. Chelsea has continued to ramble and struggle at the middle of the table with lowly Aston Villa, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

The club signed the Argentine World Cup winner, Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea spent as much as $120m to bring the young midfielder from Benfica to London. What about the Ukrainian Mudryk, who snubbed rivals Arsenal?

The defence also had some reinforcement including the Spaniard defender Cucurella, Senegalese Khoulibaly, French international Badeshile. The attack was not in the lurch.

With the commitment, there has been nothing to show for it. Chelsea has crashed out of the Carabao, and the English FA Cup. There is no assurance of making top four in the English Premier League.

The Graham Potter’s Chelsea also lost the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League to Germany’s Dortmund. Whereas the club spent more than $300m in the January transfer window.

Graham Potter has said that it would be wrong to attribute the poor performances to him. He argued that he is not the problem of the club. Yet he has failed to specifically identify the problem.

Potter left Brighton for Chelsea. His former club would rather perform better. In fact, his exit has not in anyway affected the club.

Chelsea has won only 8 of the English Premier League games. It drew 7 and lost as many as 8 as well. That’s a very poor performance. Neighbors, Fulham have won 11 games.

Initially, the nosediving was attributed to a series of injuries in the club. But several of the players have returned from injury. They are fit to play. As a matter of fact they are starting now. What is happening to the club then?
