A veteran and renowed Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle has downplayed the talent of popular hip-hop singer Burna Boy.
The Nollywood star said that the artiste doesn’t deserve the recognition he currently enjoys in Nigeria and from across the world. Burna Boy recently won a Grammy award.
The actor made his opinion in a Facebook post on Wednesday saying that the artiste has “done nothing by himself that can be remotely described as great”.
Still talking about Burna Boy, the artiste made reference to Nigerians who have made their names or landmarks in the music industry. He referred to Sunny Ade, Fela Anikulapo, I. K. Dairo, all of whom paved the way for the hip-hop star. He said the singer needs to be “respectful of their diligent and truly pioneering predecessors “.
The post reads in full, “The credit for the feats that appear to be puffing the likes of Burna Boy up have to be properly ascribed to the greats who cleared the thorny path to have created the pathway for his likes to walk through practically effortlessly.,”
Doyle continued, “Burna Boy has not by himself done anything that can be remotely described as great “.
He completed his opinion by saying, “let’s us not contribute to the creation of an arrogant and obnoxious monster”.
