Bukola Saraki’s presidential bid receives a boost

0

Bukola Saraki’s presidential bid has received a boost ahead of the primary election. He is getting far ahead of the southern aspirants for the seat.

Mr. Saraki is contesting for the office of the president for the second time in a row. He jostled for the PDP’s ticket in the last exercise in 2018. And now he is fully back on stage.

A popular and powerful figure in the southern region, Chief Edwin Clark, has said that he would be backing Saraki for the job though with one condition.

Saraki’s team was at the residence of the former minister in order to get his support. Clark made reference to the sterling performance of Saraki in the Senate when he led the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

Clark agreed that it should be the turn of the southern region to occupy the seat of the president. And he so much believed in the need to present a consensus candidate from the southern region.

However, Mr. Clark said that if the southern region fails to present a consensus candidate, he will choose Saraki, who is from Kwara State.

A number of politicians have come from the southern region to show interest in the job. Among them are Mr. Bola Tinubu, Mr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Mr. Rochas Okorocha and Mr. Dave Umahi. They are in the All Progressives Congress.

At the same time, the People’s Democratic Party has attracted a number of top politicians as well. Among them are Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim, the former Secretary to the Government of Federation, Mr. Sam Ohuabunwa, Dele Momodu, and Doyin Okupe.

Mr. Clark expected them to present just one consensus candidate. However, if they fail to do that, he will need to back Bukola Saraki for the job.

Saraki can now pray that southern politicians should fail to present a consensus candidate. Hence Bukola Saraki’s presidential bid has received a boost.
