Buhari’s decision ruffles APC. The ruling party is wrangling internally. The choice of the president is the main issue in the party right now.
The All Progressives Congress goes to the national convention very soon. The president has his anointed candidate, and he has not hidden his own interests. He prefers former Nassarawa State governor.
There are other aspirants. But it appears the president wants to force his own candidate in the party’s throat. And though the leaders can’t openly oppose him, there is ruffling.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu has got the nod of the president. He has never been among the favoured candidates in the race. Yet all of a sudden, the president came up with his name.
There is a report that Mr. Nasir El-Rufai has been in Abuja for long. The kaduna state governor is said to be making schemes to frustrate Bola Tinubu’s camp.
The last chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, is from Tinubu’s camp. If he were still in power, Tinubu wouldn’t worry about his bid for 2023.
The APC governors prefer an open contest. Obviously, they don’t prefer Buhari’s choice for the party. Even the reason for Buhari’s decision remains sketchy.
The APC governors were in a meeting with the president when he opened up. The president wants Mr. Abdullahi Adamu and Ken Nnamani to become the chairman and vice chairman respectively.
But the governors, according to Punch Newspaper’s report, consider the duo as belonging or attached to the People’s Democratic Party. Hence, they oppose Buhari’s choice.
Buhari’s decision ruffles APC to re extent that the division extends to the state level. The state chairmen of the All Progressives Congress have aligned themselves with the president.
The publicity secretary of APC in Zamfara State explained, “We will support anybody who is nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari or our great party, the APC, as a consensus candidate.”
Different state chairmen have reacted to the development. But Mr. Abdullahi Adamu himself has said that the president didn’t endorse him. And that makes the whole topic more intriguing.
Bola Tinubu has not talked about his own choice. But definitely, he won’t consider the senator. Mr. Adamu at a time talked against zoning formula. That will make Tinubu consider another person.
