Akpabio gives Tinubu warning over budget defence
The president of the House of Senate Godswill Akpabio has told the Nigerian president Bola Tinubu to instruct his ministers and heads of agencies to desist from travelling out of the country as budget defence starts.
President Bola Tinubu has already presented a budget of N27tn for 2024 fiscal year. While presenting the appropriation bill, the president appealed to the lawmakers to pass and approve the budget within 30 days.
The fiscal year starts on 1 January, 2023.
The ex Akwa Ibom state governor, Akpabio, gave his assurance to the president that the National Assembly would consider his request. He is the chairman of the assembly.
He however told the president,” We assure you that the proposals you have come to present will be diligently considered accordingly.
“We approach this moment with a sense of duty, unity, and purpose. To ensure maximum attention to the review of the Year 2023 Budget performance and the consideration of the Year 2024 Proposal, we request that Mr President would mandate Honorable Ministers and Heads of Agencies to avoid any travelling engagements that would prevent them from honouring our invitation to promptly appear before our committees to defend their budget estimate”.
Mr. Akpabio added, “As we embark on the journey of reviewing the 2024 budget, let us remember that our actions today will shape the future of our nation. Together, let us work towards a proposal that reflects the aspirations and dreams of every Nigerian citizen for a greater country.”
