Bayern Munich on rampage in the UEFA Champions League
The German Bayern Munich had conceded just two goals in 8 games in the UEFA Champions League this season. Bayern Munich has been ruthless since the group stage level.
The Bavarians have scored 21 goals in the competition this season. Bayern Munich came from the so-called group of death that included Barcelona FC, Inter Milan and minnows Victoria Plzen.
Bayern Munich didn’t have much headache cruising past the Spanish club. They scored five goals against the team in aggregate in the two-leg game. That might ultimately send Barcelona FC from the competition to the UEFA Europa League.
Likewise, the German club didn’t hesitate to deal with Inter Milan ruthlessly as well. They beat the Italian football club home and away with four unreturned goals in the competition.
Only Viktoria Plzen showed little resistance against Bayern Munich in the competition. The German team scored 9 goals against the minnows only for the latter to return two in the second leg of their encounter.
Pundits said that the 2020 UEFA Champions League winners would face the real test of their strength when they were drawn against star-studded Paris Saint German. The round of 16 would be a litmus test for Bayern Munich.
Of course, they have passed the test. When they travelled to the France capital, they were able to score just one goal, which the hosts PSG failed to return. That was in mid February.
PSG looked set because of the return of key players including Mbappe and World Cup winner Lionel Richie. Yet PSG failed at home. They wanted to have their pounds of flesh on the German side at the Allianz Arena in Germany. That has failed hitherto.
The second leg held yesterday. The floppy performance of Paris Saint German continued in the UEFA Champions League. In fact, PSG has not been spectacular since the Qatari owners took over the club. It’s been a series of woeful performances.
The Bavarians sat at home, welcomed the visitors PSG and crushed them. That sent the PSG out of the tournament. To state it factually, Bayern Munich scored 3 goals against PSG that couldn’t return just one.
