Niger Gov Mohammed Bago Openly Insults Islamic Cleric
Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has continued to receive backlashes from Nigerians for his attitude at the Fidau prayers for the late wife of the deputy governor.
Three days ago, Online Parrot News broke the news of the sudden death of Hajiya Zainab Yakubu Garba. The governor himself was o ground for her burial. The prayer was scheduled in accordance with the Islamic rite and the governor was attending when he rudely addressed an Imam.
The governor had, in the video, ordered his security personnel to clamp down on the Imam who simply volunteered himself to lead the prayer for the deceased second lady of the state.
The governor said, “We can all pray for the repose of the deceased from mosques within our areas. May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal peace, so let’s get a cleric to pray for us.”
When the insulted Imam came out, the governor, Bago lashed out saying furiously, “Did I talk to you? Are you an Imam?”
He then ordered the security personnel to clamp down on him.
“Slap him, I say slap him very well,” Bago ordered, “Oya, go and arrest him, deal with him very well, and bring him back”.
“Everybody, should be careful with me, because I can sweet and bitter at the same time,” Governor Bago said amidst cheers and applause from the sympathisers who were seated.
