Atiku taking a bite of bitter pills he served

Things come round in circle and it’s applicable to Mr. Atiku Abubakar, who is now taking at least a bite of what he served. He must be feeling the heat now and what it means to betray a course.

The ex vice president, who also wants to lead the country scored little above six million votes to be behind the winner of the presidential election, Bola Tinubu. That shouldn’t have been the fate of Atiku Abubakar.

He is a veteran and he ran for the same office in 2019. He was close to upsetting Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election. And that really gave him encouragement to shoot again. Just then, the repercussions of what he did in 2015 arrived.

Goodluck Jonathan was seeking another term in office then. He was sure of victory if there wasn’t any rebellion from within the People’s Democratic Party. Atiku Abubakar led the rebels.

The ex vice president thought it was his time to shine. He dumped the party to embrace the newly formed All Progressives Congress. Whereas he met failure there as the party adopted Muhammadu Buhari as its candidate almost unanimously.

The former vice president didn’t immediately return to the PDP. And that contributed to the shocking defeat Goodluck Jonathan suffered in the presidential election.

And last year, the People’s Democratic Party held its primary election. It’s one of the most interesting political exercise in the country. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar beat Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike to the ticket.

But Wike felt that the ticket shouldn’t go to north again. He then orchestrated a fight that ultimately pulled Atiku Abubakar down. Just like in 2015 when Atiku himself led some PDP echelons, Wike also led four other governors of the party.

All efforts to settle the internal matter of the party failed just as the ex vice president refused all entreaties to make him and others stay in PDP back then in 2014. The Rivers State governor then became a thorn in Atiku’s flesh.

The only difference is that while the Adamawa state politician left the PDP to fight from outside, Nyesom Wike stayed back and fought. And Atiku tasted from the bitterness as well.

There is no doubt that Buhari was really popular in 2015. But one thing that is still clear is that if Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki and a host of others didn’t leave the PDP, Jonathan might not lose the election.

Surely, Bola Tinubu is a popular figure in the country. Nevertheless, if Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde had cooperated with the PDP and Atiku, the ex Lagos state governor might not win.

Anyone can review the results. Atiku lost the states being controlled by the PDP. He lost Rivers, Edo, Oyo, Benue. He managed a narrow victory in Osun State. If he had the support of the aggrieved governors, he might coast home victory.

The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, can now experience what Goodluck Jonathan had in 2015. Things come round in circle. That’s applicable to the desperate politician now.
