Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, former vice president Atiku predicts PDP’s collapse. The ex vice president, who is also a leader in the party has said the party may crash.
The People’s Democratic Party has been out of power since 2015. The unprecedented defeat of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan dealt a serious blow to the PDP.
Now Atiku Abubakar has warned that the next general elections might be last chance of the PDP. He said that if the PDP failed to win the election, the party would be in the opposition for eight more years.
The former number two citizen then explained that he is worried and that top leaders of the party should be concerned as well.
Atiku Abubakar told the PDP Board of Trustees members, “I am worried and you should be worried too that if we do not win, it means we will be in opposition again for the next eight years.”
He said that by that time, several of the leaders would no longer be active. He said that he didn’t know how many of them would be left in partisan politics.
He expressed his fear that being in the opposition for eight more years “may even ultimately lead to the death of the party because people gravitate, particularly in developing countries, towards governments.”
He appealed to the BoT members “So this is a very crucial and historical moment in history, for our survival.”
Mr. Atiku Abubakar, a presidential hopeful, revealed that the zoning formula came into existence for one reason. The party wanted every part of the country to “have a sense of belonging and I personally have paid my dues on the issue of zoning.”
He argued emphatically that the southern region has produced at least two PDP presidents. He therefore urged that the next presidential candidate should come from north.
Atiku predicts PDP’s collapse perhaps considering the arguments. Southern politicians have insisted that it’s there turn to produce the president.
