Atiku Abubakar and his People’s Democratic Party have dragged the incumbent president Bola Tinubu to the apex court. The former vice president and his party have expressed their disapproval and rejection of the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal confirmed the election of Bola Tinubu two weeks ago. The court explained that the plaintiffs (Atiku and PDP) failed to prove their cases beyond reasonable doubt. The court also said that most of the issues that the petitioners brought had earlier been decided by another court.
The ex vice president had argued that the All Progressives Congress didn’t attend the Chicago State University let alone to have a diploma from the institution. Whereas the American varsity had released transcripts of the results of the president.
In the appeal to the Supreme Court, both the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku argued that there were corrupt practices, irregularities and that the electoral body, INEC failed to comply with the laws.
The appellants also informed the apex court that Bola Tinubu was not qualified to run for the election. They gave a reason that the APC candidate forfeited $460,000 and his dual citizenship in the United States of America.
