Atiku: I’m not yet tired of politics

I still have interest in presidency, to run in 2027 – Atiku

A former vice president and presidential aspirant, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has indicated that he is not yet tired if running for the office of the president. He started his journey for the presidential villa in 1993 but he has never been successful in his bid.

His closet move was to secure the ticket of a party, but only to lose to a stronger and more prepared candidate from another political party.

He slugged it out with Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi of the All Progressives Congress and Labour Party respectively in the last general elections. Atiku came second just as he did in 2019.

There have been speculations around his running for the job again. He has become more outspoken, criticising the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He has not discarded running again.

The former vice president said that he’s not yet tired of vying for the top office, but he can’t determine his own fate. He said that the Peoples Democratic Party, which he dumped in 2014 only to rejoin later, would decide what happens.

“I’ve made it clear since last elections that if our party members had a consensus that southeast should produce the candidate, we would all agree. And if our parties also had a similar agreement, then so be it,’’ Atiku said.

Adamawa-born Atiku further said, “We fiercely fought even the military governments; let alone the civilian administrations. So, if you’re thinking otherwise, you might be dreaming. We would never retrace from fighting injustice, and bad governance. I am not yet tired of the political activism.’’
