Another Abuja-Kaduna attack on train looms
Barely few months after the last one, another Abuja-Kaduna attack on train may happen. This particular intelligence has been shared by the ministry of transportation via a letter it wrote to the ministry of defence for actions.
Last year there was a serious attack on a train in that same axis. The gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram members, killed some passengers on board while they kidnapped others.
In the said letter, the ministry of transportation said that it has received a letter dated 1 February, 2023 concerning the imminent threat of attack on train by the insurgents.
The secret police, (Department of State Service) had written a memo to the ministry to warn of the threat.
In order to expedite actions, the ministry of transportation thereafter wrote a letter to the ministry of defence so as to pool together all resources. The transportation ministry stated that there is a need to call all stakeholders to review the alert and to put measures in place.
The last batch of the kidnapped passengers got their freedom in October. They were kidnapped in April, 2022. 23 of them secured their own freedom that October.
The Boko Haram insurgents collected ransoms from the victims up to the tune of billions of naira in total.
The Chief of Defence staff, General Lucky Irabor, had set up a committee to look into how to secure the release of the victims that time.
