Amnesty International condemns Israel for attacking Gaza
The Amnesty International had criticised and condemned the Israel Defence Force for launching attacks which target civilians and civilian residential areas in Gaza.
Israel started its retaliation on Saturday following a surprising attack that the islamists Hamas carried out on the civilians in southern Israel. The US-designated terrorist group broke the Israeli borders, used parachutes and overran a military base to kill more than 1,000 citizens.
The Amnesty International called on Israel to stop the collective punishment and end the siege and blockade of Gaza.
Israel has cut electricity supply, stopped food items flow and capped water. Amnesty International explained that Israeli reprisal “has plunged the Gaza strip into darkness and will exacerbate an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.”
In the same statement that the human rights group released, it said,The collective punishment of Gaza’s civilian population amounts to a war crime – it is cruel and inhumane,” it said.
The statement further announced, “Amnesty reiterates that Palestinian civilians are not responsible for the crimes of Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups and Israel must not, under international law, make them suffer for acts they play no role in and cannot control.”
