Akpabio, Lawan Fight Over Sitting Time In the Senate

There was a turmoil in the upper chamber of the National Assembly on Thursday when an altercation ensued between the President Godswill Akpabio and the immediate past president of the Senate Ahmad Lawan over sitting time.

The House had to convene an emergency executive session while the argument or disagreement between Akpabio and Lawan was on.

The normal time for sitting is 10am, but often there wouldn’t be commencement until 11am since the former Akwa Ibom State governor became the head of the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

Through the Leader of the House Opeyemi Bamidele, the Incumbent Senate President moved to change the time from 10am to 11am. This made the former Senate President Lawan to react and oppose the move.

“The explanation that the change was to enable the Senate to synchronise its sitting time with that of the House of Representatives is not saleable to senators,” Lawan stated.

Online Parrot News found out that the lower chamber of the National Assembly sits at 11am. Akpabio planned to let the two Chambers sit concurrently.
