Artificial Intelligence adds to internet fraud – Tinubu’s minister Fagbemi claims
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi has blamed Artificial Intelligence for the growing cases of fraud in the country. Mr. Fagbemi, a senior advocate of Nigeria, said that the AI and other generative technologies claimed to help to manifest fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has stepped up in its fight against internet frauds which are pervasive among the youths most especially in the tertiary institutions of learning.
Fagbemi made his claim while attending a summit in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. He was pessimistic in his view about solving the menace of internet fraud. He said that the threats would continue to grow with the contribution of the artificial intelligence and the technologies.
He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, it is very clear that the threats we are facing will only continue to grow and evolve in unanticipated ways. In particular, the threat of artificial intelligence and generative technologies are already beginning to manifest new avenues for fraud.
“At the policy level, we must make all efforts to ensure that we understand the range of threats that we face and those that will confront us in the future. This emphasises the need for continuous and ongoing ways of risk assessment and typologies work.”
