Football enthusiasts can know certain facts about Vincent Aboubakar, the current AFCON 2021 top scorer. He has broken the grounds that should be part of history.
Aboubakar rose to the occasion when he started to lead the indomitable lions of Cameroon to the AFCON 2021. And he has not let down either his teammates or the host country at large.
The Cameroonian was born on 22 January, 1992. He has already clocked 30 years. His birth took place in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
Aboubakar is a professional player as he plays for a Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr. He was not a popular figure prior to the commencement of the AFCON 2021. Now he is the cynosure of all eyes in the games.
The Cameroonian skipper scored twice from the spot when they faced Burkina Faso. The host country came from behind to capitalize on defense errors and fouls of Burkina Faso.
Aboubakar clinically took the penalties and the two were enough for the indomitable lions to move on.
He was on ground when Cameroon went on rampage to beat Ethiopia in the second group stage match. His brace was part of the four goals against the Ethiopians.
Likewise he didn’t wane when Cameroon confronted the slippery and eluding Cape Verde. The match ended in one goal apiece. Vincent Aboubakar was on ground for his country and team.
He led Cameroon out of the group stage with five goals. He didn’t stop at that though. In the knockouts he registered his name when he netted against debutant Comoros.
The debutants proved a bit difficult both in the defence and attack. But Aboubakar scored once to increase his goal tally from five to six.
Since 1998, there has been no player in AFCON to score more than five goals. But with just four matches, Vincent Aboubakar broke the record.
