Key records have been broken in the AFCON 2021. Lots of intrigued have been recorded in the games and they are worthwhile to note. The games are still in progress.
Debutant Comoros were able to make a record in the competition in Cameroon. It will be the first time they will take part in the continental games. They made it to the knockouts.
Comoros found themselves in a very difficult situation. They had to face favorite Morocco and four time champions Ghana in the game.
Comoros were so bold that they confronted Ghana. The island was able to make three points in a 5-goal thriller. The points catapulted them to the knockout stage.
Another record is that Vincent Aboubakar has broken two records. He was able to break Samuel Eto’o’s record of 5 goals in the competition.
Samuel Eto’o, a Cameroonian, held the record of 5 goals in the game. But with his goal against Comoros, Vincent Aboubakar broke the record.
Likewise he is now the first player in the 21st century to score six goals in AFCON. AFCON 2021 has now become an avenue for Vincent Aboubakar to make a landmark.
The super Eagles of Nigeria also have their records in the games. Despite leaving the group stage with a perfect result of 9 points and six goals, they lost to Tunisia.
The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia left the group stage as a best loser. Yet they overcame the Super Eagles of Nigeria, one of the favorites to win the game.
