0

Three countries have qualified for the semifinals of AFCON 2021. The fourth team will join the other three when the last quarterfinal match holds between Senegal and Equatorial Guinea.

The host country, Cameroon booked a place in the last four yesterday when they beat the minnows Gambia in Douala, Cameroon. The Gambia squad initially proved stubborn.

Their defence was so solid that it was impossible for the indomitable lions to break in the first half of the game. But things changed in the last 45 minutes and two goals sent Gambia out.

The stallions of Burkina Faso faced the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in another quarterfinal match yesterday night. It was a battle of the titans. But the stallions were victorious.

Tunisia qualified for the round of 8 when they beat the favourites, Super Eagles of Nigeria in the round of 16. But luck evaded them when they faced Burkina Faso yesterday.

Two North African rivals, Morocco and Egypt faced each other on Sunday. Boufal’s first half penalty put the Moroccans ahead of the Pharaohs.

Liverpool’s star Mohammed Salah equalised for the pharaohs in the 58th minute of the match.

The normal 90 minutes ended in a stalemate. And there was additional extra time (AET). Trezeguet was on target in the first 15 minutes when Mohammed Salah provided an assist.

So, three teams or countries have made it to the semifinals of the AFCON 2021 so far.
