Why Tinubu’s ally Dayo Adeyeye rejects APC primary

Bola Tinubu’s ally Dayo Adeyeye has rejected the APC primary election in Ekiti State. The former minister raised issues with the primary election conducted two days ago.

The people of Ekiti State will elect Fayemi’s cabinet in June. And as part of its preparation, the APC has conducted a primary election to choose its flag bearer in the election.

But Mr. Adeyeye, who is the head of a movement for Bola Tinubu, the Southwest Agenda (SWAGA), has rejected the results. He even said he would challenge the outcome.

He argued that those who conducted the exercise as ad hoc staff belonged to the campaign group of Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji, who eventually won the election. That will be the basis of his petition.

The committee in charge of the primary had asked the aspirants to choose 20 persons each to be among the ad hoc staff for the poll.

There were seven aspirants who jostled for the party’s ticket for the race to the Ekiti Government House in Ado-Ekiti. Mr. Abubakar Badaru, Jigawa state governor, asked them to bring 20 persons. And that would make 140 to work on the exercise.

However, Mr. Adeyeye alleged that Abiodun Oyebanji dropped 531 names. And that Badaru didn’t use other aspirants’ lists. He further accused the chairman of the primary of concocting the results of the exercise.

Tinubu’s ally, Dayo Adeyeye, explained, “There was no election; they just concocted results among themselves. All the people that conducted the election were members of Oyebanji’s campaign team. We have the list.”

Mr. Badaru had explained that the exercise was transparent and free. Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji had scores over one hundred thousand votes to emerge as the winner of the primary.
