Senegal beat 9-man Cape Verde in R16 AFCON

Senegal have beaten 9-man Cape Verde in the round of 16 of the ongoing African Cup of Nations to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Cape Verde became a 10-man team in the first half of the game when Patrick Andrade was shown the red for a very rough tackle to Senegalese Gueye.

The best loser from Group A held their strength and ensured that the ordeal didn’t stop them at all. The first half ended in a goalless draw.

The ordeal of Cape Verde became worse in the second half when the goalkeeper collided with Liverpool’s star Sadio Mane outside the box.

The goalkeeper sustained an injury, yet he was shown the red by the Algeria. The injury later forced Sadio Mane to leave the pitch in the 68th minute.

But before he was substituted, he put his side, Senegal ahead of Cape Verde. Just five minutes after his goal, he left the pitch with a round of applause.

Senegal had qualified for the knockout stage as the group winner. With just one goal, Senegal made 5 points. They were able to win their opening match and draw the remaining two.

Senegal will now play against the winner of another round of 16 match between Morocco and Malawi.

The impacts of the red cards were not really felt because the Cape Verde players were able to still create chances.
