African countries where military have hijacked power

There are three African countries where military have recently hijacked power from the democratically and constitutionally elected heads of state.

On Sunday, 23 January military officers announced the suspension of the constitution in Burkina Faso. The taking over of government in that country is the latest in Africa.

Burkina Faso is tackling insurgency in some part of the country. The coup plotter, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba announced the taking over of the government.

The military has also dissolved the government and the parliament while also removing the president, Roch Kabore.

The former French colony has now fully come under the control of the military. There are more impoverished country in African continent.

Mali has also suffered from military interruption to its civilian government. The military upon their taking over of the government seized and detained President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane.

Of course, the coup has further destabilized the development of democracy in the West African region.

The United Nations secretary general, Antonio Guterres at that time argued that the military kidnapped the civilian heads of the school.

Sudan has not been peaceful since the ousting of former Sudanese leader Omar Bashir. A transitional council was put in place to steer the affairs of the country.

But the council couldn’t do its work as the military hijacked power from the council.
