Two more big teams will crash out of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). The tournament has reached the second round with just 16 countries and squads left.
The Black Stars of Ghana have crashed out of the tournament following their inability to make more than one point in the three group stage matches.
Likewise the defending champions, the desert foxes of Algeria are out of the tournament. They only made one point and scored just one goal.
Ghana and Algeria are the two top squads to leave the tournament in the group stage. More will follow as the game proceeds in Cameroon.
Either the Super Eagles of Nigeria or the Tunisian side would crash out. The two top sides have been paired against each other in the round of sixteen.
The Super Eagles made maximum nine points in the group stage. Whereas Tunisia were among the best losers picked from the groups. Four best losers joined the knockouts.
On Sunday one of the two sides would be shown exit. There is no way for the two to make it to the quarterfinals. Therefore, one big team would leave.
The other case is Cote D’Ivoire and the Pharaohs of Egypt. They have to face each other in the round of 16 as well. It would be a clash of giants.
Note that Cote D’Ivoire led the Group E with seven points. They showed their master class against the desert foxes. The Elephants revenged.
Likewise Egypt were the runner-ups in Group D. They were behind the Super Eagles with six points from three matches.
Egypt had won the African football tournament seven times. Cote D’Ivoire had won it twice. Each of them would fight for a space in the quarterfinals.
Definitely, one of them will leave the competition as a matter of fact. Therefore two of Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Cote D’Ivoire would crash out.
