Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has edge over the former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu on the APC ticket matter.
Tinubu was in the presidential villa last week to acquaint the president of his desire to occupy the presidential seat. He has since then been moving around the country.
Yahaya Bello too will also go head to head against Tinubu for the ticket. He has always aspired to lead the country once he is done with the administration in Kogi State.
One may wonder that Tinubu is stronger than Yahaya Bello. But there is one factor that can make the Kogi State governor stand out in the race.
Mr. Bello can rely on the bill Buhari signed into law some years ago. When the country started to call for youths to take over, Buhari approved not too young to run bill.
The president was even expected to pave the way for younger Nigerians to rule. But he asked them to wait till he finishes his second term. The term expires next year.
Tinubu is old. Several analysts and Nigerians have argued that Tinubu might be a replica of Muhammadu Buhari. Hence, a younger and agiler Nigerian would be needed in 2023.
Buhari should know that it’s an onus on him to pave way for a youth to take over. If he does this, Mr. Yahaya Bello may be considered.
The All Progressives Congress will soon conduct the national primary election. Both Yahaya Bello and Tinubu would lock horns. One of them may emerge. But with the explanation, Bello may be the favorite.
