The first Nigerian goalkeeper Okoye has reacted to Super Eagles’ performance so far. He also expressed some disappointment.

Okoye, who plays for Watford in England granted an interview to the Punch Newspaper. He expressed his opinions on the team over the 33rd AFCON.

He said he was happy that the team had qualified for the second stage, but he was disappointed because he couldn’t keep a clean sheet.

Okoye was able to stop the Pharaohs of Egypt from scoring in the opener. Nigeria beat the North African team to record their first victory in the AFCON.

But he failed to stop the Sudanese from taking the ball past him yesterday.

He told the Punch Newspaper, “First of all, I’m happy that we got the three points but disappointed not to keep a clean sheet.”

He stated further, “We have qualified for the next round, which is nice but it would have been sweeter with the clean sheet.”

The first choice goalkeeper explained that winning is what matters the most in any game. He described how his teammates showed good characters in the games.

He didn’t stop at that. He talked about the Super Eagles defence. He said he was comfortable with the pairing of captain William Troost Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo.

He told the newspaper, “The partnership is growing and I believe that they will get better.”

Okoye however lamented over the injury suffered by Leon Balogun. The defender is unable to take part in the competition due to the injury.

He expatiated, “Yes, I am comfortable with their pairing. It is so unfortunate that Leon (Balogun) had to pull out of the tournament due to injury.”
