EPL: London Derby Postponed On Arsenal’s request

The London derby which is supposed to hold tomorrow has been postponed. The match between Arsenal and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur has been put off.

The Premier League Board met today to deliberate on the request put forward by Arsenal concerning its away match to Tottenham. The board agreed with Arsenal Football Club.

A statement released said, “Following a request from Arsenal, the Premier League Board met today and regrettably agreed to postpone the club’s away fixture against Tottenham Hotspur due to be played at 16:30 on 16 January.

Former Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard didn’t feature for Arsenal in the goalless draw against Liverpool in the Carabao cup. He had COVID-19. Likewise Emile Rowe, and new signing Takehiro Tomiyasi were injured.

Suspended captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Parte, Nicolas Pepe, and Mohammed Elneny are taking part in the ongoing 33rd African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Furthermore, Cedric Soares was replaced at Anfield in the semifinal along with Bukayo Saka. Granit Xhaka was booked in the semifinal. Hence, Mikel Arteta was left with a depleted squad.

Arsenal, fourth in the table, beat its London city rival in the first leg. Arsenal will face emboldened and rejigged Tottenham in the return leg at White Hart Lane.

A new date has not been announced for the postponed encounter in London.
